The research and development activity aims to promote collaborative research initiatives between Canadian and African universities. UM6P Global Hubs Canada is committed to improving access to technological expertise and strengthening ties between academia and industry stakeholders. Through a network of partner institutions, we contribute to the creation of high-impact research projects, the sharing of cutting-edge infrastructure, and the valorization of knowledge to address common societal challenges.
To achieve this, we implement several key levers:
- Joint mobility programs for researchers and PhD students, fostering the co-construction of knowledge;
- Collaborative virtual laboratories that enable the pooling of expertise remotely, particularly in emerging fields such as applied artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and the circular economy;
- Cross-funding mechanisms (scholarships, bilateral calls for projects) to support the emergence of Canada-Africa research hubs;
- Foresight workshops bringing together researchers, companies, and policymakers to anticipate industrial and environmental transformations.

Energy
UM6P Global Hubs Canada contributes to the development of low-carbon, inclusive, and context-appropriate energy solutions for Africa. By facilitating technological and scientific collaborations, we support the growth of sustainable energy systems aligned with global climate goals.

Mining
UM6P Global Hubs Canada is committed to fostering the emergence of sustainable, efficient, and technologically advanced mining models. By connecting Canadian and African expertise, we contribute to advancing mining practices toward more resilient, ethical, and circular standards.

Agriculture
UM6P Global Hubs Canada works to strengthen sustainable, technology-driven, and inclusive African agricultural systems capable of addressing the challenges of food security, climate change, and territorial development.

- Dissemination of agronomic and digital solutions that promote sustainable productivity;

Artificial Intelligence
UM6P Global Hubs Canada is committed to developing responsible, open, and impactful artificial intelligence that serves Africa’s strategic sectors. By bringing together research, innovation, and entrepreneurship ecosystems, we promote a contextualized, inclusive, and sovereign approach to AI.

- Integration of AI into key sectors such as agriculture, energy, logistics, and health;
- Strengthening human and scientific capacities to foster AI that is locally adapted and well-controlled;
- Creation of joint innovation centers for the development of locally driven solutions;

Health
UM6P Global Hubs Canada is committed to contributing to Africa’s health sovereignty by facilitating scientific, technological, and industrial partnerships between Canada and the continent. Our efforts aim to support collective initiatives toward more autonomous, efficient, and resilient healthcare systems.

- Support for scientific collaborations on priority health issues in Africa (infectious diseases, chronic illnesses, environmental health);
- Contribution to the establishment of applied research platforms to accelerate the transition from science to real-world impact;
