UM6P Engages with the Moroccan Diaspora in Canada: Catalyzing Transnational Intelligence in Service of the Continent
On September 13, 2024, Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) held a strategic meeting in Montreal with members of the Moroccan diaspora in Canada. This key event was part of the UM6P Associates program — a true platform for engagement, recognition, and co-creation with Moroccan talents across the world. Bringing together researchers, entrepreneurs, executives, and industry experts, the meeting aimed to foster a collective dynamic around a clear objective: to mobilize Moroccan intelligence worldwide in service of Africa’s ambitious, sustainable, and sovereign transformation.
The Moroccan diaspora in Canada represents an exceptional reservoir of skills, ideas, and leadership. It embodies a transnational capacity for action, drawing on both the excellence of North American innovation ecosystems and a deep awareness of the challenges facing the Global South. This dual belonging enables the diaspora to play a unique role — bridging innovation ecosystems across continents, activating new synergies, and driving high-impact projects on both sides of the Atlantic.
In this spirit, UM6P’s goal is not merely to reconnect talents with their roots, but to integrate them fully into a continental project founded on scientific innovation, sustainable transition, technological sovereignty, and the training of a new generation of leaders.
Through UM6P Associates, these talents gain access to an engaged community, structuring projects, and concrete opportunities to contribute — in research, entrepreneurship, technology transfer, or mentorship. The aim is to foster a new form of circular intellectual mobility, serving an inclusive, locally grounded, and forward-looking model of development.
It is within this same dynamic that UM6P Global Hubs Canada was created — a North American branch designed as a strategic bridge between Morocco, Canada, and Africa. Far more than a representative office, UM6P Global Hubs Canada serves as a space for dialogue, innovation, and collaboration, where members of the Moroccan diaspora can fully engage, initiate, share knowledge, and build.
This gathering was more than just a meeting — it was a powerful statement: That Africa is no longer defined by rupture, but by interaction. That Morocco trusts its citizens abroad to imagine bold new solutions. And that UM6P stands as a university where openness, excellence, and impact lie at the very heart of its mission.
